Known for its maritime history, Halifax is now a major centre for business. Overlooking the city, the hilltop Citadel is a star-shaped fort completed in the 1850s. History, culture and a harbourfront boardwalk bring visitors and residents to this provincial capital. If you live here, there will be much to do, with art and culture as part of the scene.

Things to do

Within Halifax, you can visit the site of the historic Citadel. Point Pleasant Park offers wooded trails for walks and stunning views across the harbour as well as of the Atlantic. During the summer, you can enjoy outdoor theatre by a professional company, as they present Shakespeare by the Sea. People and pets all enjoy the trails here, in a park close to the city.

While in Halifax, you can take the family to the Maritime Museum, located downtown. If you paddle or enjoy kayaking and canoes, there are abundant places to enjoy this sport. Cape Breton Highlands National Park is the place to take family. It includes waterfalls, mountains and rocky coastlines and has easy trails as well as more moderate.
