Renting an Apartment or Home

When applying for proof of residency from outside of Canada, one requirement is showing that you have the funds you’ll need. You will need to rent an apartment as soon as you arrive, unless you are staying with family. Proving to the landlord that you can pay the rent will be important when you begin your life in Canada. You should also be able to stay afloat financially while here, especially if you have children.

When you first arrive, you can also stay at a hotel or hostel. Their website can tell you the price and location as well as show you photos. What are the other types of housing in Canada? The following might explain what is offered:

  • Houses – detached and semi-detached
  • Townhouses – common wall between homes
  • Condominiums
  • Rental apartments – one to three bedrooms
  • Bachelor units – single room divided for living and sleeping
  • Rental room within a home

There are a host of housing options in Canada; your choice will depend on your budget and needs.
